At the recommendation of our innkeeper, we ate dinner in the neighboring village at The Range Café. This restaurant has a colorful and lively interior and serves tasty New Mexican specialties. It must be quite popular, as we waited for nearly 30 minutes for our table. However, this wait passed quickly as there is much to see inside the café, as well as excellent people-watching. The restaurant features a wall of plates, signed and decorated by celebrities that have eaten here. We were honored to eat in the footsteps of Ted Danson, who drew a large pig head on his plate. Oh, if we only knew that this pig was a symbol of a horrific event to occur the next day….
For dinner we started with fried green chilies dipped in a creamy cucumber sauce (see picture above). We may have been extremely hungry (bordering on what we Marders call “hangry”—a description of the feeling of beings so hungry that you become angry), but we do not think that is the only reason that these were some of the tastiest things we have ever eaten. For dinner, Tommy had beef enchiladas with a fried egg on top (…when in Rome…) and Maggie had a combination plate including rellenos, enchiladas, and some other kind of baked corn concoction. It was delicious!
