Today we started off with a delicious breakfast at "The Flying Biscuit" with David. We especially liked that there were flying biscuits painted all over the ceiling of this restaurant.
We packed up the car, and said our goodbyes to David, and were off. Thanks, David for a terrific time in Atlanta. We will miss you!
Next, we drove several hours before stopping for lunch in Montgomery. We used our AAA Tourguide though struck out nonetheless at the "Montgomery Brewery". This restaurant had good potential as it was built in an old railroad warehouse and had a unique interior. However, our meals were so laden in mayonaise and cheese that they were almost unrecognizable....and that is saying a lot given that we were eating salads. Ugh. Anyhow, then we walked around Montgomery a bit in the 103 degree heat looking for the Civil Rights Memorial. We passed MLK's first church, where he was called to duty in the movement at 26 years old. It is almost inconceivable that he was so young and yet so wise.
Around 7pm, we arrived (over many bridges and overpasses) in New Orleans. We are staying at the La Quinta in the French Quarter. This was a good find on Tommy's part! We are getting a great AAA rate, and the hotel has been significantly renovated since Katrina. We were stunned by the evidence of destruction that remains on the route into New Orleans. Much of Canal Street, including the right wing of the Ritz Carlton, looks A MESS. However, our hotel is great. We gave the valet a good laugh as he unloaded our billions of bags from the Element.
We had dinner at a restaurant named "Olivier's" in the French Quarter. We cannot understate how much we enjoyed this meal! The food was creole and AMAZING, and the service was impeccable. Mr. Olivier himself even came out to check on us and took this picture! It was seriously so good we are tempted to return tomorrow!
