Final Product

Stuffing!

Our new island car

We finally bought a second car since Tommy started working so that we can both get to work. Very exciting--we found a used 1990 Mazda Miata in Kailua that was very inexpensive! We looked at about 10 other cars before deciding on the Miata. Some of these included a 1987 Chevy Nova, a 1999 Saturn wagon with a salvaged mis-matched door on which none of the locks worked so you were forced to crawl through the hatch back each time, a 1995 Accord that vomited oil all over the place when we test-drove it, and a VW Cabriolet with significant body damage. Obviously, when we found the Miata in the same price range we were thrilled.

Unfortunately, we have to tow it to a mechanic tomorrow because it began smoking and having alternator belt problems the night before Thanksgiving. We hope that it won't be too expensive to fix....

New Bedroom Set

Maggie found a fancy new bedroom set at a yard sale. No more non-matching sheets and comforters!

Thanksgiving Morning, Oahu

Tommy's Ultimate Man-Mobile

Now that Tommy has his surf board, he was inspired this Thanksgiving to test out the Element as a true "Man-Mobile". He washed the car and then filled it with his surfboard and golf clubs just to test it out. Pretty awesome!

Tommy gets his surfboard

After much waiting, Tommy purchased his first surfboard last night. He drove all the way to the north shore for the board. It is apparently a good one, though I know little about what makes for good quality. Tommy says that it is good because it was not cut by a machine/computer, but rather hand-carved. The maker of the board actually signed the back of it. It is 6'10". Tommy is in love with it like it is a person.

Maggie on the Mainland

Last week, Maggie traveled to Philadelphia for the Annual Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapy Conference. Maggie looks forward to this meeting each year, as the organization is her "professional home" of sorts and she enjoy catching up with all of her friends and colleagues who are scattered throughout the country. This year was particularly fun, as Maggie's good friends Beth and Sydney came up to visit! Maggie had a busy weekend, and ate many delicious dinners in Philly. Wednesday night was a mexican fiesta with Cameo and Maggie eating the biggest bowl of guacamole known to man. On Thursday her boss took the Child STEPs PhD-level team members out for a crab feast. Friday was a VCU Alumni reunion at Maggiano's, and Saturday night was a girls dinner (Maggie, Syd, Beth, Cameo & Julie) at South St. Souvlaki--the oldest Greek restaurant in Philly.

On Sunday there was a mechanical delay on the flight between Philly and Atlanta, and thus Maggie was stranded in the ATL overnight. It turned out to be not bad at all, as she was able to have a fun night of sushi and ice-cream with David Marder. Her Delta-voucher got her a room at the Clarion hotel that smelled like a licorice factory, but oh well. She arrived safely home in Hawaii on Monday afternoon and went straight in to work.

We are looking forward this week to cooking our first Thanksgiving dinner wherein we are not relying on our mothers. It should be an adventure...

Very odd and funny sign. You would only see this at a psychology conference.

Fun with the girls at dinner.

Makapu'u Day, Afternoon

Makapuu Lighthouse

After getting hot and sweaty hike-walking up to Makapuu, we went to the beach made famous in "From Here to Eternity" and took a dip.

Then we discovered that there is nothing better than a large slurpee after being in the sun all day. Slurpee = Nectar of the Hawaiian Gods.

And MORE Makapu'u
