Today I ran the Straub Women's 10K with my team of women from Fleet Feet Kailua. This race runs a scenic 6.2 miles up one side of Diamond Head Crater (the dormant volcano) and down through Kahala, back up and down the crater, and empties back into Kapiolani Park for a finish on Waikiki Beach. It was a great race that involved about 1800 women. Our team met in Kailua at 5:30am and carpooled into town. We got there just in time to set up our tent before heading to the starting line. I was running with a girl from my group named Sarah, and this was her very first race--fun! The first 2 miles of the course were almost totally uphill, and it was HOT even though the sun was just cresting over the volcano. Everyone agreed that they felt like crap going up the hill (even our teammates who ran 7 minute miles said they felt horrible--one in fact threw up!). Anyhow, the crater was much less painful the second time round, and Sarah and I enjoyed the view of the expansive Pacific Ocean while we worked our way through the course. I came in, as usual, around the middle of my age-group, though I was definitely not running "for time", just for fun. I am feeling stronger every week that I am running again, so hopefully I will be in racing form for the Hibiscus Half Marathon in June.
Our fearless leader (and Fleet Feet owner), Susan won 2nd in her age group! Lynn, our resident superstar, was 15th overall and had a sub 40 time. That means 7:08 minute miles, people...this is made even more insane by the fact that she just gave birth like 6 months ago.
Maggie and Sarah.

Maggie and more of the Fleet Feet Ladies.

Our group and our tent.

Susan accepts her award.

These two are amazing! One is 79 and one is 50! Both placed in their age groups.

Congrats -- you look awesome! BTW, when we're 50 let's plan on looking just like your running mate. She's hot :-)
