The Redrams Hawai'ian Adventure: Katie: Day One (Lanikai Hike)

On Katie's first morning, we took advantage of her jeg lag and awoke before dawn to hike up to the WW2 pillboxes above Lanikai Beach. Through the dark, we ascended what we thought was going to be an "easy" trail, but which turned out to be a bit of a steep hand-and-foot climb up rocky outcroppings! We definitely broke a sweat, even in the cool dawn air. After feeling a bit like we were "racing the sun" we arrived at the tippy-top of the "mountain", where we sat atop the pillbox and watched a breathtaking sunrise. While up there, we met a bunch of friendly folks and two very
adorable dogs. Maggie has discovered her favorite subject for photos....and she can't wait for June when she can take plenty of pictures of Matzah!

We waited up on the hill until the sun started to burn and we realized that a) we were crazy hungry and b) we did not have any sunscreen. We descended the trail, with only one small casualty...Maggie's rear end. She fell, HARD, slipping on gravel and landing directly on her tush. The good news is, her rear end is highly cushioned and she just got a large, impressive bruise, but no tailbone damage. :)

After breakfast, we headed to Boots 'n Kimos for some Onolicious Omlettes and Banana Pancakes with Macademia Nut Sauce. This was the perfect reward for our sweaty hike.

P.S. I am pretty much addicted to my camera at this point, and find it incredibly difficult to choose between photos to upload. I love all of them. So, sorry for the large number of photos per post, but I just want to share all of them.
