On Saturday, the Redrams packed the car and headed up the coast to check out the famous North Shore. We stopped several times along the way to admire the amazing views. We also found what may be our new favorite beach park--Kualoa Beach Park, which is located just north of us on Kamehameha Highway. The beach was very peaceful with very few tourists, and the water was warm but just cool enough to be refreshing. There is also a good view of Chinaman's Hat (the island in the beginning sequence of Gilligan's Island.

We drove through Hale'iwa, stopping to peruse the shops and sample some shave ice (Maggie's new favorite food!) After backtracking, we ended up on Sunset Beach, eating a packed lunch and watching the surfers take on the powerful waves. Tommy swam around, but Maggie remained on shore, intimidated by the intense undertoe and huge wave faces. There was a friendly dog on the beach, waiting dutifully for his owner who must have been surfing. Each time someone emerged from the crashing ocean, she ran out to meet them with tail, tongue and ears wagging in the wind. Once she got hot, she dug a big hole in the sand and laid down. She came over to visit several times, and we missed Matzah as we pet her salty head.

On the way home, we stopped at Giovanni's shrimp truck and split an order of shrimp scampi. We also picked up some fresh fruit at a local stand and dripped papaya juice all over ourselves trying to eat it on the way home. Maggie's hair got completely crazy looking from the open sunroof. Overall, it was a great day!
