Road to Hana and the Cabin

Later that day, we began the extremely curvy "Road to Hana". Our cabin (at Camp Keanae) was located about halfway to Hana at mile marker 16 on a beautiful peninsula. The road was...an adventure. Thankfully, Maggie was driving, or she would have been quite sick and possibly vomiting off one of the 52 one-lane bridges. Driving this road is both an upper-body and mental work out, as the road is frequently only one-lane and you must watch to yeild for incoming traffic barreling down the mountain. Also, there are NO straight patches of road--it is all tight switchbacks with perilous twists and turns.

Once we arrived, we realized that we could not survive the night on the box of triscuits and easy cheese which we had packed. We would have to return to town for nourishment. We spent about an hour soaking in the views from our cabin, and headed back along the insane road to the town of Paia. We had some delicious Mexican Food before turning around and making the 90 minute, 16 mile drive back to Keanae.

Thanks to Maggie's Mom, who found this amazing cabin on the internet! The views were stunning, and it was well worth the crazy drive into the middle of nowhere.
