Our Garden

Last Sunday, we planted a garden with our landlord Stephanie. The garden pre-existed us in this apartment, but had died out between tenants. This was Maggie's first garden experience, and she was very happy about the potential of picking fresh herbs to cook with for dinner.

We spent much of the weekend preparing the soil, adding the mulch, watering it, going to "town" to buy the plants, bringing them all back in the Element, and planting them according to the design of our landlord who has some experience in this department. It took all afternoon Saturday in prep and most of Sunday in actual planting, etc.

These are pictures after 5 days in the ground. It was too dark and pouring rain when we finished last week so I didn't get any good "first" shots. Also, it is still dark when I get up in the morning to don my headlamp and look for snails, water my plants, etc so I haven't been able to take pics since. Anyhow, this weekend I took some pictures so that we can compare once the miracle of nature begins. :)

We planted a variety of herbs (rosemary, thyme, oregano, mint, and others), several different types of basil, a bean plant, 4 cherry tomato plants, 2 papaya trees, lemongrass, chives, lettuce, arugula, hawaiian chili peppers, thai chili peppers, and some other native plants that I cannot remember. Anyhow, it looks (and smells) great!

The plot!

Bean plant has already grown about 5 inches!

So much basil!

Hawaiian Chili Peppers--Yum!

A few I have left to put in the ground...

I'm so jealous that you guys are able to plant a garden in the early days of December! It looks fantastic. I'm about to start planning for next year, but I won't be able to plant until mid/late February.
