Kaneohe Christmas Parade

This Saturday was our hometown Christmas parade. Less fancy than Waikiki, but exploding with Aloha Spirit. Tommy begrudgingly followed Maggie as she strapped on her backpack-lawn chair and excitedly made her way down Lilipuna Road to Kamehameha Highway where the parade was to take place. As many of you know, Maggie loves parades. LOVES them. Tommy, not so much. He spent most of the parade in Starbucks and on his cell phone. :( Many props to him, though for at least humoring Maggie and coming along. You may recall some pictures from the Aloha parade in Waikiki earlier in this blog. You can see from these pictures that this parade was more "hometown", with homemade floats and a lot of community kids marching/dancing/doing the hula. It was so great. Just Maggie's style! Another major difference is that these pictures reveal a bit of what it is like being a haole (white person) living in Kaneohe....looking for a haole in these pictures is a bit like Where's Waldo.

The crowd awaiting the parade....see that gas sign? Its not THAT much more expensive for gas here from what I hear...though those pennies add up fast!

Aren't the little ones cute peering out?

Hula!
